Welcome and thank you for visiting my store!
Here's a little about who we are and what we do. Our primary focus is raising and preserving heirloom crops and growing herbs for medicinal uses to blend in with  our all natural soaps, salves and bath salts. The herb calendula is used in all of my herbal products that are made here locally. Calendula is very healing and is considered to be an anti-fungal, anti-viral and ant-bacterial herb. It is an effective treatment for most minor skin conditions. It is also detoxifying and helps with inflammatory problems.
All of the herbs that are used in our products are either grown here by us, purchased locally from other farms that grow their crops naturally, or purchased from another organic and /or fair trade source. All of our vegetables and herbs are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides, with a firm belief that things should be grown the way nature intended and not exposed to harmful chemicals that have long lasting, damaging effects on us as well as our environment. ( for more information on harmful crop chemicals please visit  www.beyondpesticides.org ). Promoting healthy living and self-sufficiency is our goal. The seeds that we offer for sale are grown by us and are of an heirloom , open-pollinated, naturally grown, non-g.m.o. variety.
The jewelry and art decor are a combination of Western and Native American design.
When adding a name to my business there was no question as to what it would be. Old YellowHorse Gifts is named after a real " old yellowhorse"( palomino), who represents strength , courage and a strong will to enjoy life despite being 32 years old and trying to beat cancer. This horse is all heart. In all of the years of trail riding I don't believe he ever looked back at what was behind him, he always looked forward with anticipation as to what could be down the road ahead of him. He is a symbol of hope, strength and perseverance and will forever be our "team mascot".

(An update on the old yellowhorse, when I first started my web-site not quite a year ago, it was named after him believing that it would be in memory of him thinking that he would not be with me for too much longer, his cancer was getting worse and  letting him suffer was not even an option, it was a very tough decision because even though you could tell that he was not well he still had  a strong desire to live.
Having made arrangements to bring him back to our home where he was born many miles away to say our last good byes, the weather suddenly turned too bad to travel. His arthritis medicine needed to be changed up again, it works best when rotated it seems, so I put him back on his yucca root.(wonderful plant!) Within three weeks he was actually running . When observing him out walking around I noticed that he seemed to crave burdock greens, even though there was green grass around him. In nature animals (people too) will go to certain plants to help them with illnesses. Remembering that burdock root is a good liver cleanser ,I dug up the root and started feeding shaved up pieces to him every four days. The results were a little gross in the beginning but it must be working because he is still with us, doing better, getting stronger and even gaining some weight back !  I guess that he is proof that every living thing has a purpose, even the pesty burdock.)

We have now added an on-line shopping cart to our web-site and will continue
to add more items to the on-line shopping page. If you would like something that
is not yet added for on-line purchase then please contact me and I will make it available a.s.a.p. We still work with mail order for payments as well but if you prefer on-line shopping please link to ;    http://shop.OLDYELLOWHORSEGIFTS.COM

Good News!
Sault Ste Marie's farmers market Grand Opening is Wednesday April 28th.  If you are ever in the Sault Ste Marie area please stop by and visit the market. There are a number of great local farmers and artisans with a wide variety of goods and sometimes a few local musicians. We will be there Wednesdays 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m at the corner of Ashmun & Portage.

Also.. The River of History Museum has now re-opened in it's new location at 531 Ashmun (the main street going through town) in Sault Ste Marie. They have done a beautiful job with this project. The museum is full of Northern Michigan history as well as a gift shop full of items made by local craft people and artists. It has the most beautiful birchbark work ever found in the Upper Peninsula !
Our soap and a few of our other items are at the museum gift shop as well.
You can visit their web site for more information at www.riverofhistory.org
